In our last update, we overhauled the KOBDi Industry Search to make it faster and more detailed. We gave you the power to filter companies by who they are –their business licenses, the certifications they hold, HR information, and their size and financial data.
Today, we are adding another important piece of data: finding companies by what they actually sell – Products and/or Services.
With the new Product & Service Search, you can now type specific keywords to find businesses based on their actual output, not just their category or industry classification. Whether you are looking for “CCTV Camera,” “Solar Inverter,” or “Organic agricultural materials,” you can search the text of business portfolios directly.
New Search Capabilities: Instant Suggestions & Precision Modes
To make finding the right keywords easier, we have enhanced the search experience with smart features:
- Instant Autocomplete:
Unsure of the exact term to use? Just start typing. As you type, the search bar automatically suggests products and services that already exist in our database. This saves you time and ensures you are searching for terms that actually yield results. - Smart Match (Default):
This is the best place to start. It casts a wider net, finding relevant matches even if the spelling is slightly different or if the terms are closely related. It is designed to help you discover partners you might otherwise miss. - Exact Match:
Use this when you need absolute precision. If you are looking for a specific product type or a precise product name, this mode ensures the results contain exactly what you typed, character for character.
How Filters Work Together
To help you build the perfect target list, it is important to understand how the Product Search interacts with our other filters (Industry, Licenses, Certifications, etc.).
Think of your search as a layered process. Every new category you add acts as a filter, narrowing down your results to find only the companies that match all your criteria simultaneously.
- If you only use Product Search: We scan the entire database for that keyword, regardless of the company’s industry or status.
- If you add filters (e.g., Licenses or Certifications): We look for that specific product only within the companies that possess the specific License or Certification you selected.
This allows you to verify a company’s capabilities (via Licenses) at the same time you verify their products.
Stacking Product Keywords
While the main filters narrow your list down, the Product Search tool itself gives you flexibility to broaden or refine your keyword strategy. You can add multiple rows of keywords and choose how they relate to each other:
- Broaden your search (“OR”): Searching for “Lotion” OR “Cream” will show companies that sell at least one of these items. This is perfect for broad market research.
- Refine your search (“AND”): Searching for “Battery” AND “Lithium” will only show companies that list both terms in their portfolio.
Guest vs. Member Access & Data Export
We want everyone to experience the power of KOBDi, but our comprehensive features are optimized for members:
- Guests: You can try the Product Search with a limited number of search rows (up to 2 conditions) and a daily limit on total searches.
- Members: Logged-in users have unlocked access to add more product search rows for complex queries and enjoy unlimited searches.
- CSV Export: Once you have generated your target list, members with eligible plans can export the full results to CSV. This includes the specific Product & Service information for each company, alongside other key data points like contact details, financial status, and rankings, making it easy to integrate the data into your own workflow.
Recommended Workflow: The “Funnel” Approach
Since the search engine looks for companies that match all your selected criteria simultaneously, applying too many specific filters at the very beginning can sometimes exclude potential partners. We recommend starting broad and refining step-by-step.
Here is a practical example of how to zoom in on the perfect partner:
Let’s say you are looking for a verified manufacturer of high-quality cosmetics.
Step 1: Start Broad (Product & Status)
- Product Search: Start typing “Functional Cosmetics” and select it from the autocomplete suggestions.
- Business Type: Select “Head office of a for-profit corporation” (to ensure it is a company, not an individual business, for example).
- Business Status: Uncheck “Suspended” and “Closed” (keep “Active” checked).
- Listing Status: Leave as “Any” (Default).
- Result: You now have a broad list of every active corporation in Korea dealing with functional cosmetics.
Step 2: Refine by Capability (License)
- License Panel: Select “Cosmetics Manufacturing”.
- Result: The list updates to show only the companies from Step 1 that officially hold a manufacturing license.
Step 3: Zoom In on Quality (Certification)
- Certification Panel: Select “Cosmetics GMP“ (Good Manufacturing Practice).
- Result: You now have a highly targeted list of Active, Korean Licensed Manufacturers dealing in Functional Cosmetics that are GMP certified.
A Note on Data Availability
The KOBDi database tracks over 5 million Korean businesses. Currently, we have detailed Product & Service data for over 100,000 of these companies, focusing on the most active and relevant players in the market.
Our team is working daily to expand this coverage. However, if your Product Search doesn’t yield immediate results, we recommend removing the product keyword and prioritizing the Industry Classification, Licenses, and Certifications filters. Since these are directly linked to a business’s legal operation scope, they remain the most reliable way to find partners across the entire 5-million-business ecosystem.
